  1. Martha, another great show Saturday night (I was the guy leading the conga line you requested), but that 11:15 start was a killer! I was wanting to come see you again this weekend at Lake Arrowhead, do you have any idea what your projected start time might be?
    Thanks

    • First off thank you so much for the note and especially for the Conga line, good job! I don’t know exactly when we go on but it’s a lot earlier, we’ll try and get the time posted so you know… thank you again…m.

  2. I would absolutely love to see the Motels in Denver, CO. I’m a photographer who has shot some of the very top names in the industry. The Motels are #1 on my list of who I’d love to get in front of my camera!

  3. Martha, I hope you wont forget your European fans in 2013 … especially those from London, UK, where there are some lovely clubs that need you. … is that a subtle enough hint !!

  4. HI Martha

any plans to tour england this year, and would I be able to meet you during the concert!!!!! you have to ask these things!!!

    regards

  5. Fabulous show at the Brixton… All I was hoping for… and more… What a way to end/start the Long Count!
Best wishes to you and the band… hope you all have a merry xmas and happy new year to begin the new era!…

p.s. thanks for the autograph on the “apocalypso” t-shirt, though i’m beginning to wonder if it’s gonna wash off… probably should’ve gotten the vinyl, but if you have any left, i’ll get it next time…

    • thanks so much and sorry for the late reply… I’m having kind of a busy winter, which is good! you can always go to the Omnivore Records site, they sell the vinyl there. i will be back, don’t worry, so see you next time! thanks…m.

  6. Hi, Martha! Thank you for making yourself so accessible to the fans. We love you dearly. Is there a chance of a NYC gig in the New Year? We miss you! PS Your voice sounds just as amazing as it did 30 years ago – you are in a league of your own! xx G

  7. Hi Martha,
I have been a huge fan of yours for years. We are nearly the same age if that tells you just how long. It’s great to see that you are still rockin’. These new up and comers can’t hold a candle to you. You are A true legend. It would be great if you could tour back east in 2013. We need you to play the Capitol Theatre in Wheeling, WV. You would love the place. If not, I am going to have to head west.
    Jeff Jones

    • Thanks Mike, we really wanted to play longer as well… I didn’t even get to wash a dog!! it was great hanging with the people and pals that stayed. maybe we can try again next year…m.

  8. I am a fan and saw you at The Brixton’s in Redondo Beach last summer. I am a 30 year stagehand and I ask if you need a stagehand to set up your events for free?

  9. Hey Martha, I see you play the hell out of California. There’s a town close by that would like to see you again. It’s called Las Vegas! Please come back. . . and bring Boys Don’t Cry with you. Bummed I’m going to miss the Malibu Inn show.

  10. Martha,
Loved your show so much at the Hollywood Bowl, that I organized about a dozen friends and myself to come see the show in Bellflower on Dec 1st (I am in the Air Force, and have duty the next day, and I’m sure it will be a long fun night before). Any chance you’ll perform Bojour Baby? It’s my favorite song of yours. Can’t wait to see you perform again. :-)

    • Hi Gary, what a nice note I’m flattered! and totally stoked that I’ll see you in Bellflower… I’ve never played at that club before should be fun… I always come out after the show so come by and say hi. I was an Air Force wife back in the late sixties, stationed at Mac Dill, in Tampa Fla. remember spit shining my husbands boots, I was 15. We’ll give you a good night before you get back to it… Thanks again see you soon…m.

  11. Hi Martha,
My name is Phil Waters, from Manchester,England. I’ve loved your music since the early 80′s but have only just found this website! I was lucky enough to see you at one of the two shows you played at Manchester Poly Student’s Union in Oct ’79 or Dec ’80, don’t recall which one now. Anyway, I was wondering if you may remember the gig because of what happened. You were about twenty minutes or so into the show when suddenly the power cut out. Guitars, Amps, Mikes, even all the lights went out! You naturally had to stop singing but your drummer, Brian Glascock I presume, just kept right on playing. And playing. And playing some more,in total darkness, until the power finally returned some five or ten minutes later! Whereupon a huge cheer came up from all of us in the audience to thank him for his heroic efforts! The whole experience must have been any band’s worst nightmare, but I always remembered it and here I am some thirty odd years later re-living it with you!
It’s so cool to be able to speak to you like this! Thanks for all the great music!
    Regards,
    Phil.

    • Hi Phil, I do remember that… one of the many things can and do go “wrong” with shows… though as you said, sometimes the result is just that the evening is more memorable. Over the years there’s been a slew of “Spinal Tap” moments… I look back and laugh, and know as well it could happen tomorrow… that’s the beauty of live… thanks so much for you note, maybe we’ll get back there someday…m.

  12. Dec. 22 at The Brixton!… I’m sure you realize that that’s the last day of the Long Count… the end of the Mayan Calender cycle (all 5,000+ years of it)… Toss out the Old and the Bring in the New… I’m there!

  13. Martha, great to hear from you. Yes, Park West is still here. I am actually going to see Aimee Mann there next month. It would be so cool to see you/The Motels there at some point. I think another great option here would be the concert venue at the Old Town School of Folk Music. I’ve seen some great stuff there like Aimee, Matthew Sweet/Susanna Hoffs, Suzanne Vega. It’s kind of along the same lines of Park West. Anyway, thanks for your response. All the best to you, and I hope you’ll be able to make it here soon! –Frank

  14. Hi Martha! It probably gets tiresome reading “When will you come to ____?” a million times, but I hope one day you’ll play Chicago if at all humanly possible. You are amazing. I’ve got a near obscene amount of music on my iPod, and yours is right there at the top in terms of both songwriting and performance. I’ve got every single Motels album and all of your solo albums–love them all. I think “Little Robbers” is my favorite but it’s hard to pick. I loved reading your recent interview about “Total Control” and I think it would be really cool if you put a section on the site at some point where you write specifically about some more of your songs. By the way, I’m 28 and find that the vast majority of music being made by my generation doesn’t hold a candle to The Motels and other bands that started in the ’70s and ’80s. I’m sure I’ll never stop being inspired by it. Anyway, take care and hope to seeya in the Windy City at some point! –Frank

    • Frank thank you for your lovely note… want you to know that Chi Town is one of my favorite places… is the Park West still going? used to love playing there, would so like to come back… Maybe next year we can get out your way. In the mean time, thanks again, it truly means a lot to me…m.

  15. You don’t know how many times I’ve turned up the volume and blasted the empty space with your Total Control song, and that whole record. I’ve seen hundreds of acts, and have hundreds of albums, and you are right up there towards the top of my book! Keep it up! I moved there from San Francisco to San Diego, so please let me know if you ever play down here.

    • Thanks John, I will always post the dates, in fact I will be posting a bunch of new ones today. Is Bellflower close to you? be there on the 1st of Dec. I’ll run into you one of these days… all the best…m.

  16. Martha, I went to the Hollywood Bowl gig with the Go-Go’s, et al, specifically to see The Motels for the first time. My only disappointment was that your band was 3rd on the bill. You all sounded amazing and my girlfirend and I were entranced by the performance. It was so wonderful and romantic. I hope that you continue to work on the website, if nothing else, than we fans can keep abreast of any future shows you line up. I so want to see you in one of the more intimate venues you perform at, where the spotlight will only be on the Motels. I also hope that should I be fortunate enough to see you and the band in such a setting that you will play Bonjour Baby (my personal favorite) as part of the set. Thank you for continuing to share your talent with your fans.

    • Hi Gary, thank you for your very nice message, so glad you enjoyed the evening, nice to spend the full moon in the way back machine! I will be playing in and around town in Dec. I will be posting the dates soon. in the mean time, be well and thank you again…m.

    LLL
    JD

    • Hi Jon!!! so great to hear from you!!! Hope you had fun at the Bowl, I know we did… Marias with me up in Oregon, you should come up!! got plenty of room and lots of animals on the farm it’s a nice get away… we’ll give you a call, love…m.

  18. Martha, Saw your show at the Hollywood Bowl. I was blown away! There were so many bands from the 80′s that I never got to see, The Motels being one of them. I am so glad I was there! I don’t know if you ever played the Bowl before but I am so glad you did last Saturday night. The crowd loved you, too! So well deserved!! Best wishes and keep playing!

  19. I just saw The Motels at the Hollywood Bowl last night, you rocked it! Martha still commands the audience and the band is real tight, it could be felt. You should have been the band before the Go Go’s if not top billed. Your song portfolio has so much more depth than the Go Go’s. I saw you perform at the Greek in 1981 and still remember that as one of the best concerts I have ever been to. I remember that Martha’s high heel broke off while walking down from the audience but she made her way to the stage with one shoe on and walking on her toes with the other shoe.

  20. Saw your show at the Hollywood Bowl last night and it was awesome! The last time I saw you was back in ’82 when you opened for the J. Geils Band in Detroit. Wished I’d known about your gig at the Brixton in Redondo Beach back in July. Best of luck!

    • Thank you Dale, I’m going to be posting a lot of dates in Dec. check it out and see if there are any close to you… if there are come over and say hi, I’m always out after the show, thanks again…m.

  21. Ms Davis. I am 34 years old. I was a kid when you were out there with the band making awesome music. Today I was listening to “Only the Lonely” on the way to the office and my soul went on a Journey back into 1983 when I was a kid and I remembered things I had forgotten about. Music has such an impact on peoples lives and memories it’s amazing. Thank you for your wonderful music in such a wonderful era. I wish I was old enough to go to Hollywood and see the band perform at the Starwood and Madame Wong’s back then. Such a great time. Thank you so much. I am going to try my hardest to come see you at the Hollywood Bowl. If I cant I will hopefully see you in the future. Im a single dad of 3 girls and money gets tight sometimes. But I know I need to try to have fun and concerts are my favorite. Hope to see you at the bowl. Thanks

  22. Just had “The Day That Won’t Go away” in my head all day. I can think of nothing better. Wanted to pop in here and just say “thank you” for the years–deacdes!–of truly great music. Looking forward to hearing whatever else may come–you just keep getting better and better. Like all your fans, I hope everything in your life is going beautifully, Martha! Thank you!!!

  23. Another Boston fan saying “hello”, while patiently awaiting your return. I will never forget when you played The Orpheum theater in support of All Four One. You climbed up to one of the opera boxes and laid a long, passionate kiss on a man while his lady looked on. She didn’t mind one bit and he didn’t either. I was around 18 at the time and from that night on I knew how to kiss like a woman. There is no one like you, Martha! No one like you! xo

  24. Hi Martha!
Any chance you guys will tour the East Coast soon? Tons of devoted fans in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast would love to see you!

  25. East Coast loves you! Saw your last show at Johnny D’s in MA. It was so absolutely amazing to see you. Hoping and praying you can come back soon.

  26. pls keep going to arrowhead, we drive over from phx, such a cool getaway, you guys always put on an awesome show. we love you! thx so much!

  27. Hey Rock Star! Just checking in. Vids on YouTube look like you’re having great shows. Motels Rule!
I’m eating a jelly donut right now. My dog has fleas. More later, God willing.

  28. Thanks for keeping in touch, Martha! My favorite venues in the area include Myrtle Beach, SC’s House Of Blues, Carrboro, NC’s Cat’s Cradle, Charlotte, NC’s Fillmore, and Richmond, VA’s The National. Hope to catch you on the road soon, thinkin’ about Greyhounding down to Palm Beach in December, for the show with A Flock Of Seagulls! Best regards and lots of love! XOXO

  29. Do you have any plans to appear in the Bay area? I didn’t know you’re still playing. I’ve been a fan for a long time, but haven’t had a turntable to play the LPs for 25 years.

Radio stations have all gone to format hell in the Bay Area, except college stations. Starved for your great music. ‘Into the Heartland’ is still a favorite.

  30. Hi Martha,
Thanks so much the fantastic show in smoldering Visalia this past weekend! You are one of the elite artists that pour their soul into the craft and that has always been the defining characteristic of your vocals. There are select few that can convey that emotion, especially in this day and age of Pro Tools and Auto-tune. Thank goodness there are actual musicians still writing their own music, playing their own instruments, and making real music! Thanks again and I hope I can catch you doing a full set sometime. Too many great songs for a short set!

  31. Hello,
I just wanted to drop by and let you know how incredible the band was at the Crest Theatre Friday, August 10. Just amazing! Best set on the show! We could have left happy after your set. :) I LOVE your boots Martha! I have been looking for some like that.
    Take Care!
    Laura@The Crest

    • So sweet of you, I’ll pass it on to the band, aren’t they great? I’m a lucky girl! the boots were from Fred Myer (think that’s how you spell it), don’t know if they have them down there maybe on line? (they were cheap!) hope it’s cooled down there, we’re getting it here in Oregon… too hot! See you soon…m.

  32. The Motels SERIOUSLY need to come to the Richmond/VA or NC area. Would love to see the band after all these years, and could get you lovely press! (Photographer and Journalist). Best regards!

  33. oh no-are you now not playing redding on 8/11? visalia instead?-cascade theater say the play “Oaklahoma” is being preformed that night! ( unless Martha is playing the lead) what up?

  34. Nice website. Keep up the good work. Maybe you can add a function where the subscriber can enter email address and get update on latest concert info via automatic email. That will be helpful for the fans. Keep up the good work!

  35. Hey Martha, great show at the Canyon Club! Lee Manning (Chapel Studios) says hello, he was there also. Hope to see the band again soon!
    Good Music, Good Times :)

  36. Hi Martha, I’ve been a big fan since 1981. I used to work at Akron in Tarzana. You were there shopping and you autographed an Akron business card for me. I still have it. Looking forward to seeing you Friday at the Canyon. Robert

  37. My wife and I want to see you guys, but we live in Pennsylvania. When are you coming out our way? Make it happen…..

  38. Hey Martha!
Props to you for attempting the digital communication world. Trust me, you are not the only person who feels lame (using your words) in this respect. Do what you do and the world will have to accept you and your website for what they are.

Any chance you will be doing a show in the SF Bay Area in 2012? I saw you in Palo Alto a handful of years ago and really enjoyed myself. I was sad that few people turned out to support you that evening, but those that did seemed to really appreciate the opportunity to see something special.

If no shows are forthcoming, I will keep eyes and ears alert if and when you do come back. Love your repertoire of soulful ballads and flat out ass kicking rockers!

    Steele

    • Thanks so much for the note… We’re are actually coming to Sacramento, on the 10th of august and Visalia the next day … I know it a drive, but so far that’s it for Nor Cal that I know of. I will post my little brains out when gigs are added… never know, year ain’t over yet… though it seems to be flying by at super sonic speeds… all the best…m.

  39. sorry m..i started that you come to the east coast but everybody loves you:)) anyway// if you come,,please come to boston for the spring time…. joke,,lolo. old song but good,,
    vinny

  40. Hi Martha, I remember your music like it was yesterday! Im 50 now and it always brings back good memories from the past! Have you ever thought about coming out with a solo album? I know that i would buy it in a heartbeat!!
Thanks again for bringing real music into the world!
    Dirk In Florida

    • I’ve actually done about three solos, the Policy album on Capitol, So the Story Goes, self released, and Beautiful Life, also a self released. all of which are very hard to get a hold of… well I do have copies of Beautiful life, that was the last one. I think it is also available on iTunes. if you have problems finding it get back to me, we’ll see what we can do…Thanks…m.

  41. Hi Martha, I just got a copy of Apacalypso. I remember meeting you right after you recorded that album. I did an interview for a local radio station and we sat at your dining room table and talked about that album and All 4 One. Hope your kids are fine. I now live in Austin, TX and hope be at the New Orleans show, do you know where you will play? Also you should think about playing SXSW in March next year. It is a great time, lots of people and music. Thomas Dolby played this year and got a great response. Look forward to seeing you…

    • Mark, nice to hear from you… not sure of the venue in New Orleans, I’ll post as soon as I have all the details, should be a blast. went to sxsw, a couple of years ago, crazy times! look forward to seeing you again…m.

  42. Martha, love your shows! So glad you are out there again! Went to phx zoo show, arrowhead and temecula. Live in phx but will drive to see your talent always! See you in arrowhead July 28th! Thank you for the awesome entertainment!! Barb

  43. I been waiting 30 years to catch your show. I finally have tix for the Canyon Club. I can’t wait to see you live. Ric

  44. Well, “Howdy” back at ya, Ms. D.! So nice for you to reply. As far as showing up at your gig, alas, not in the cards as of right now. Just wanted to let you know that it was great seeing your name on a marquis down in these parts. Would love to see you, too! Let me know if i’m out of bounds asking that you contact me directly through my email so that I can give you my contact info? Would love to stay in touch.
Be well, Ms. D. Miss ya, and hope to hear from you again soon..
    Mike B. , Sax/Keys/Violin, Emeritus

  45. Hey, Martha! Blast from the past: Mike Barbera here. See that you’ll be at the Canyon Club on the 27th. Break a leg, Dear…. You’ll be amazing, as always….
    cheers,
    mb

  46. can not wait to see you at the cascade theatre in redding. Last time I saw you was in fresno at the warners thither in 1984(oops we are dating ourselves!)

  47. I was listening to The Motels on the way home from work tonight – fantastic. I remember that album as if it was yesterday! Had such a crush on Martha in the late 70s early 80s – probably still today! Love total control…xx

  48. I like so far and appreciate your candidness about making this become a reality. Well, however real it can be. Wish you could play Atlanta, have been a fan forever. Much love, Robbert

  49. Hi Martha! How are you? I saw you last year at the Lake arrowhead concert, it was great! I met you after the show and we took a picture together, very sweet of you to do that with your fans, even though you have to put up with the drunk ones sometimes. I will see you there again this year. Love…Adam.

  50. Hi Martha- just a fan who says hi and that you are one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever!! You get better with time. Will be going to Hollywood Bowl and hopefully Canyon Club. Motels rock forever!!
