“It was actually I think Marty’s 30th birthday party, and Marty, the keyboard and saxplayer in The Motels, was rather a name dropper, he loved to let us know the famous people, so I made his birthday party: “It’s a Marty Party. If you bring a celebrity, you don’t have to bring a gift.” And so all these people showed up: Molly Ringwald was there, Don Henley was there, Tom Petty was there. It was hilarious.” – m
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11th, Martha flies to LA and joins “rock royalty” Steve Stevens, Billy Morrison, Billy Duffy, Mark McGrath, Zakk Wylde, and others for a “Heroes Helping Heroes” 9/11 fundraiser, hosted by Jack Osbourne and Pauly Perrette. There will be more to follow regarding a very special song Martha’s been asked to share that night, but in the meantime, enjoy this first look at an amazing, new photo taken just a few weeks ago! Be sure to come out and support this wonderful event tomorrow night. Get Tickets
“We affectionately called her Chlorine. She’s an actual model. We based this photo on a postcard from the Riviera Motel on Sunset Blvd. I ran into her at a Palm Springs show once!
This album was notorious. In 1979 when it was released, it received honors as both Best Album Cover and Worst Album Cover by different media outlets. And even weirder, some people thought this was me!” –m
On Total Control: “I wrote the lyrics to be sung as a punk version before one of the brothers (Jeff?) wrote the chord progression and I slowed down the lyrics to match the chords. That’s why that song is so cool….it’s full of rage but it’s beautiful.” –m
Awesome sentiment in this post we’re borrowing from the personal Facebook page of Martha Davis and The Motels manager, Greg Sims:
“What a privilege for me to represent one of the truly pioneering and great rock stars of the past several decades, but at heart really: singer/songwriter. That would be Martha Davis (and The Motels), and not only is her voice truly better than ever (all I hear is a chorus of “she sounds incredible”), but to have such great new music being created, as we speak, for the first new album in years, it’s all pretty awesome. New videos, new album with major distribution, a biography that will be a revelation. This past week’s concert was packed, amazing show, and great performance from opening band Pierce The Arrow- thanks to Brayden Pierce and Tom Sandoval and their band, and the talented Kristen Doute. Pretty smashing afterparty as well. All captured for airing on Vanderpump Rules later this season.”
